For Friday night dinner this year the club bought and served a spread of Steak and Chicken Fajita meats, roasted corn, grilled veggies, salad and all the fixings. There was a mountain of food that admittedly got a little out of control, but no one went away hungry. The preparation for this meal took a lot of work. From the planning to the shopping, marinating the meat and all the chopping and slicing once we got to the camp ground. Many hours and lots of hands went into providing dinner as well as all the clean up. I would like to offer a huge thank you to Perry Excell, Pat and Tim Tracey, and Wayne Pastorius for their hard work before the campout and for prepping and cooking all the wonderful food. The clean up crew was amazing, getting the food put away in record time. Thanks to Tim Tracey for getting the firewood, and to John Spencer and Randy Myers for their expert fire building skills.
We had a few really nice rides on Saturday, the High country was pretty messy still so the GS crew stayed to some bigger roads, there is a story here somewhere in the newsletter about their ride. Our group of 5 bikes went on a paved road ride over Poncha pass, down Highway 114 to Gunnison and then up Cottonwood Pass on the dirt side. I was out voted on the dirt idea so made the best of it and hoped no parts fell off my poor old 1150R. We stopped at the turn off to Cottonwood Pass to wait for one of the bikes in our group. Out in the Marsh was a huge Moose. We watched it for a few moments, until it decided to come out of the marsh and head our way. We made our way up the dirt road, with no excitement and no parts missing, thanks to my wonderful Mechanic Wayne, and his attention to details when preparing our bikes for riding season.
Saturday evening found us again on the outdoor patio of the wonderful Eddyline Restaurant. The wind had died down, the temperature was perfect, the food and waitstaff were above expectations and I hear the beer was pretty good too. If you have not gotten off the beaten path in Buena Vista and found this gem, look it up, it is worth it.
As always the crew at the Arrowhead Point Camp Ground did a wonderful job Their facility is top notch and we look forward to seeing them again next year.
I thank everyone for coming again for our annual Non-rally. It is fun to start the summer with all of you. I hope you will join us next year. Have a great sumer, see you out there somewhere.
